NEWS CENTER – Stating that the attacks were carried out by groups affiliated with Turkey, People’s Assembly Co-Spokesperson Nuri Şêxo said: “We have the will and strength to defend our neighbourhoods. We will leave their ambitions unfulfilled.”

Attacks continue on the Şêxmaqsud (Sheikh Maqsoud) and Eşrefîye (Ashrafieh) neighbourhoods in the Syrian city of Aleppo. Reporting on the latest situation in the two Kurdish neighbourhoods where the Provisional Damascus Administration's Ministry of Defence has declared war, Nuri Şêxo, Co-Spokesperson for the Şêxmaqsud and Eşrefîye Neighbourhoods People's Assembly, said, "We will crush their ambitions."

THEY HAVE BEEN PREPARING FOR 3 MONTHS

Noting that the attacks on the Kurdish neighbourhoods began about three months ago, Şêxo said: "Our three neighbourhoods here were under siege. They had prepared the ground for a military attack by building up a large military presence. The attacks began yesterday at noon. They are carrying out an intense attack. At the same time, they are carrying out psychological attacks with their statements, trying to frighten our people and leave them hopeless.”

'WE ARE READY TO DEFEND OURSELVES'

Stating that the Şêxmaqsud and Eşrefîye neighbourhoods have been under intense attack since yesterday afternoon, he said: "For the last 24 hours, our three neighbourhoods have been under a major barbaric attack. Attacks are being carried out with artillery, tanks, howitzers, drones and other heavy weapons. In these attacks, 45 of our citizens, mostly women and children, were injured and 7 people were martyred. As the council of our three neighbourhoods, we stand with our people and our security forces. We are fully prepared to defend our neighbourhoods."

'TURKEY IS WAGING THE WAR'

Referring to the Syrian Interim Government's Ministry of Defence's declaration of war, "What can a government without willpower declare? Syria is under Turkey's control. The war here is being waged by the Turks and their affiliated gangs. Dozens of gangs like Emşad, Nuredin Zengi, Hamzet are here," he said.

Noting that there are many guests in the neighbourhoods and that some families left the neighbourhood after the attacks began, Şêxo said: “There is a bit of fear among them. Some families are leaving these neighbourhoods, but 80 per cent of our people here have great determination and stand with the security forces. We have the will and the power to defend our neighbourhoods. There have been attacks on our neighbourhood before, but they did not succeed. Their hopes were dashed, we will dash their hopes again.”

Addressing the public, Şêxo concluded: “The people of the four parts of Kurdistan, human rights defenders, and countries must immediately react to these attacks and take action to stop them.”
