WAN – PJAK member Zeyneb Xurasan said that the events unfolding in Rojhilat (Eastern Kurdistan) and across Iran are not protests, but a march for existence and freedom by the peoples, stressing: “We will not step back. Historical decisions must be made, and resistance must continue accordingly.”
Actions that began on 28 December 2025 in Iran and Rojhilat have continued uninterrupted. From Rojhilat to Baluchistan, from Kermanshah to Tehran, peoples have risen up against the regime. More than 50 people have been killed in regime attacks, hundreds wounded, and over three thousand detained.
Zeyneb Xurasan, a member of the Assembly of the Kurdistan Free Life Party (Partiya Jiyana Azad a Kurdistanê – PJAK), spoke to Mezopotamya Agency (MA) about the developments.
A MARCH FOR FREEDOM
Stating that they define the popular uprising as a “march for freedom,” Zeyneb Xurasan said they salute the freedom struggle of the people of Rojhilat Kurdistan and Iran. Noting reports that around 50 people have been killed, more than 3 thousand detained and hundreds wounded, Xurasan emphasized that resistance is the only path to victory.
Underlining that the resistance is being waged for all humanity, Zeyneb Xurasan said they stand with the peoples of Iran and that the struggle is growing day by day. Stressing that this resistance did not emerge overnight, she said: “Iran is ruled by an oppressive and dictatorial regime. People are not even allowed to live in their mother tongue. Society lives in constant fear. Children are executed before the eyes of their parents. Today’s uprising is a clear rejection of this regime.”
THE ‘JIN, JIYAN, AZADÎ’ SPARK
Zeyneb Xurasan said the current resistance is a continuation of the “Jin, jiyan, azadî” (Women, Life, Freedom) movement and that the people have never accepted the existing regime.
“The sparks of today’s fire were ignited during the ‘Jin, jiyan, azadî’ revolution. The people of Rojhilat Kurdistan and Iran draw their courage from that revolution. Its seeds were planted during that process. Through the philosophy of Leader Apo, the people declared: ‘We can live together, exist together with our identities; all peoples can live as brothers and sisters.’ For this reason, hostility did not arise among the peoples. The force that oppresses the peoples and sustains itself through blood is this ruling system. Today this system has grown and is feeding on the blood of the youth,” she said.
THE STATE STEPPED BACK
Zeyneb Xurasan stated that the people have proven they can govern themselves and said the regime has turned life into an “open prison.” She described the current resistance as a struggle for existence and stressed the need for a united struggle.
She stressed: “We saw this during the ‘Jin, jiyan, azadî’ process as well. When the people united and showed collective resistance, the state was forced to step back. But when the people withdrew, thousands were arrested and executed. In Iranian prisons, people are tortured and executed. Women, inspired by Leader Apo’s ideas, led the ‘Jin, jiyan, azadî’ revolution. Today, in Rojhilat Kurdistan, women and youth are again at the forefront of this process.”
‘EVERYONE MUST OPEN THEIR DOORS TO THE REVOLUTION’
Saying “retreat means death,” Zeyneb Xurasan stated that every home in Rojhilat and Iran should become a space of resistance and self-defense. She said they would not step back and called on everyone to struggle to realize the revolution. “Every home must turn into a space of solidarity and defense. The wounded must be treated in safe areas. This is a brutal state; it even executes its own children. In Iran, almost every hour someone is executed, mostly intellectuals and leading figures. Expecting hope from this state means surrender and death. Our hope lies with the women and youth of Eastern Kurdistan and Iran,” she said.
‘VICTORY IS POSSIBLE’
Emphasizing that the regime will be defeated in the face of popular resistance, Xurasan called on everyone to embrace the struggle.
Zeyneb Xurasan concluded: “The philosophy of Leader Apo and the idea of ‘Jin, jiyan, azadî’ are based on self-organization. For days, communication has been cut and social media blocked in Eastern Kurdistan and Iran. These methods were used before and failed. We believe in our people and draw our strength from them. The ruling forces will be defeated. When we are one voice and one heart, victory is possible. The situation in prisons is extremely severe. We salute the resistance of all prisoners, from Zeyneb Celaliyan to Werişe Muradi. Everyone must take ownership of this process. If we unite, we can defeat the regime and carry this uprising to victory. Let us grow the resistance on the path of the ‘Jin, jiyan, azadî’ revolution.”
