38 Iranian workers, including women, who were brought from Iran to pick tea in the Çayeli district of Rize, were attacked. After being made to work for 15 days, the workers demanded their wages and were assaulted by employer M.Y. and approximately 15 other people.

 

While the injured workers were taken under treatment at hospitals in Çayeli and Rize city center, one worker whose jaw was broken was referred to Trabzon Karadeniz Technical University Hospital. However, as a payment of 130,000 TL was demanded for treatment and the worker was unable to pay, they were forced to return.

 

It was learned that following the attack, the workers were left at Çayeli Bus Terminal. A bus company owner who noticed the situation reported it to the police, and the Iranian workers were hosted in the terminal mosque under police supervision for two days.

 

Within the scope of the investigation launched into the incident, M.Y., who is alleged to have been involved in the attack, was taken into custody. M.Y. was released under judicial control following their statement, while it was learned that no action had yet been taken regarding the other attackers. It was learned that the Iranian workers were dispatched to Bazîd (Doğubeyazıt) to be sent back to their country.
