Details of the draft DEM Party to submit for the commission 2025-07-01 16:17:30   ANKARA – DEM Party will submit its draft regarding the planned commission to be established in the Parliament today. The draft includes many proposals.   The Peoples' Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party will present its draft related to the expected commission to be established in Parliament within the ongoing process of resolving the Kurdish issue today at 16:00 pm local time to Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş. DEM Party’s Deputy Group Leaders Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit and Sezai Temelli will present the draft text.   PROPOSAL FOR ESTABLISHMENT BY LAW   According to information obtained, DEM Party will renew its proposal for the commission to be established by law in this draft as well. The draft requests that the commission consist of at least 35 members and include representatives from parties without parliamentary groups. It emphasizes that the commission should have a pluralistic structure. The decision-making processes in the commission should be carried out jointly, and it should be structured with legal safeguards for its own operation.   The draft also includes proposals regarding the commission's agenda. Priority should be given to addressing and amending laws, especially those in the Penal Execution Law and those that could lead to unhealthy outcomes in resolving the Kurdish issue. Another proposal in the draft is that the commission should reach out to women's organizations, labour and professional unions, and other segments of society. It is stressed that the opinions and proposals of these groups will allow for a healthier solution.   WHAT WILL THE COMMISSION BE CALLED?   DEM Party will not accept naming the commission "Turkey Without Terror." It has been learned that Numan Kurtulmuş and the MHP are also not insistent on this name and have expressed that the commission could be established with a different name.    DEM Party’s draft proposes that the name be decided within the commission. It is stated that the commission’s name will be shaped according to DEM Party's suggestion. Other political parties and organizations reportedly agree with this view. The draft also requests that the working principles and rules be determined by the commission itself after its establishment.   ‘SHOULD BE SUITABLE TO THE NATURE OF THE CALL’   Officials from DEM Party we spoke to stated that the commission should focus on the ways and methods of peace and democratic resolution. Officials said: "We should not approach the issue with the concepts and approaches of the past. We need to approach it with the understanding of new politics. As you know, Mr. Abdullah Öcalan changed the entire face of politics. The name of the commission should reflect this nature and scope."   STATUS OF OTHER PARTIES   Meanwhile, it has been learned that the New Way (Yeni Yol) Party will finalize and submit its commission draft today as well. An official from the New Way Party noted, “We will most likely submit it today.”   It is not yet known whether other parties have prepared their drafts.   MA / Mehmet Aslan
