NEWS CENTER - Eastern Kurdistan Defense Units announced that Simko Kobanê lost his life in the Iranian attack in Pêncewîn region.
The Eastern Kurdistan Defense Units (YRK) Command issued a statement regarding the attack that took place in the village of Şîweguzan in Pêncewîn region on July 19, 2025. According to YRK, the attack was carried out by kamikaze drones belonging to the Iranian state and was directed against YRK units. A fighter by the name of Simko Kobanê was martyred, whose identity information will be shared with the public in the coming days.
YRK said: “After the incident, different reports were published in the media, and were interpreted in significantly different ways. As YRK, we investigated the incident and clarified that the attack was carried out by the Iranian state against our forces.”
The statement added: “The Iranian state resorts to such attacks whenever it finds itself in a tight spot. Attacks against the people of Eastern Kurdistan and the oppression of women and society are indicative of the crisis-ridden state of this desperate system.”
YRK paid tribute to their fallen fighter, saying: “Simko Kobanê was an honorable son of Eastern Kurdistan, a patriot who stood out in the Hawraman region, never strayed from the reality of his people, and always stood tall against this reactionary occupying regime. He dedicated 24 hours of his life to the struggle for freedom and was a man of unwavering labor and sacrifice.”
YRK pointed out that the Iranian government, especially after Israel's 12-day attack, has escalated its attacks instead of turning toward democratic means and uniting with its people, and deepened the crisis and chaos through unsolved incidents and intractable methods.
“As YRK, we will not remain defenseless in the face of these attacks and will continue to protect ourselves within the framework of our legitimate right to self-defense. We will not attack anyone, but we will defend ourselves against any attack directed against our people and our forces and we will not remain helpless,” the statement said.
YRK extended their condolences to the family of their fallen fighter and to all the people of Eastern Kurdistan, pledging to avenge him.
