Iraqi Foreign Minister: Turkish army should withdraw from our lands

NEWS CENTER - Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, speaking at the UN Security Council, stated that they determined that the TAF carried out the attack in which 9 people were killed, and demanded that a decision be taken to remove Turkey from Iraqi territory.

In a statement at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) session, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein demanded that a decision should be taken on Turkey's withdrawal from Iraq. Hüseyin stated that they determined that the attack on the picnic area in Perex village of Zakho district on July 20, in which 9 people lost their lives, was carried out by the Turkish Armed Forces (TAF).

Stating that they have given 296 protest notes to the Turkish authorities since 2018 to put an end to the military violations against Iraq's sovereignty and to withdraw its military forces from Iraqi territory, Hüssein demanded that the UNSC issue a decision to be made obligatory for Turkey to withdraw its military forces from Iraqi territory.

Hussein said: "Today and later we will undoubtedly hear various justifications from the Turkish side for the presence of his country's military forces within Iraqi territory, citing groundless arguments related to their internal affairs, the Kurdistan Workers Party. Turkey claims that there is an agreement with Iraq that allows for a Turkish military presence. Turkey also says that its country applies Article 51 of the United Nations Charter (right of self-defense) to justify its actions that violate Iraq's sovereignty, which requires Turkey to report its military violations inside Iraqi territory to the Security Council. The requirements of the article they use are not implemented, on the contrary, it violates the United Nations Convention”.

Hussein called for a decision to be made obligatory for Turkey to withdraw its military forces from Iraqi territory, to strongly condemn the attacks and to establish an independent international team to hold the perpetrators to account, to put the issue on the situation between Iraq and Turkey on the agenda of the Security Council and Turkey should be compelled to pay compensation for the loss in tourism activities in the last bombardment.
