RIHA – Stating that the ideas of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan were pioneering for them in the decisions of the congress they held in May, NADA member Ebîr Hasaf said, “We will become stronger with the work we will do.”

The Regional Democratic Women’s Alliance in the Middle East and North Africa (NADA) held its 1st Congress on 15-17 May in the city of Sulaymaniyah in the Federated Kurdistan Region.

250 women from Palestine, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, Somalia, Sudan, Yemen, Mauritania, Iraq, Turkey, Iran, Syria, Afghanistan and Kurdistan participated in the congress held under the slogan, “Towards a Democratic Society Based on Women’s Revolution”.
We talked to Ebîr Hasaf, member of the Women's Council of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria and NADA, about the congress and the decisions taken.

Ebîr Hasaf stressed that NADA has been working on the problems of women living in North Africa and the Middle East as well as their organisation since its establishment: "The establishment of NADA was the result of long and intensive work. The congresses provided a better understanding of the crises in the Middle East and enabled women living in North Africa and the Middle East countries to come together, work together and organise."

WOMEN IN THE MIDDLE EAST AND NORTH AFRICA

Emphasising that women in the Middle East and North African countries are struggling for existence, Ebîr Hasaf stated for this reason, by establishing NADA, the common struggle of women was tried to be woven.

Ebîr Hasaf said, "We are in a process where the 3rd World War is at its peak and the crises are getting deeper. Crises affect everywhere, of course. In response to these crises, we organised this congress with 250 women in Sulaymaniyah. While the sources and determinations of the crises were made at the congress, the ways out of these crises and solutions were also discussed.”

Pointing out that the ideas of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan were pioneering for them in the decisions taken, Ebîr Hasaf continued: "We emphasised on the expansion of the Call for Peace and Democratic Society. The importance of the system put forward in North and East Syria after the Rojava Revolution took place in the congress. The work to be done on the committees, how they will strengthen their communication both with the society and with other women were discussed. The importance of women's organisation was explained. We will try to do all of these and the items in the declaration in the following process. While our sufferings and the problems we face are so similar, we will become stronger with the work we will do."
