Iran's Permanent Mission to the United Nations (UN), condemning Israel's coordinated attacks on Iran's nuclear facilities and civilian infrastructure, sent a letter to the UN Security Council and asked for an emergency meeting.

 

It was reported that Israel's recent attacks are a clear violation of the UN Charter and contrary to the basic principles of international law, posing a serious threat to regional and global peace. While emphasising that the targeting of inspected nuclear facilities such as Natanz could lead to a radiological disaster, it was stated that these attacks also undermine the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Regime (NPT) and the IAEA's mission.

 

The letter described the attacks on senior military and nuclear scientists in Tehran as "state-sponsored terrorism", and Israel's claim of responsibility for these attacks was openly considered as an international confession of guilt.

 

It was reported that Iran reserves the right to self-defence in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter and that a proportionate, deterrent and decisive response will be given to the attacks.

 

The letter called on the Security Council and the UN Secretary-General to take urgent and binding steps and hold Israel accountable.
