NEWS CENTER - Shengal Academy of Social Sciences announced 7 decisions in the final declaration of the Enlightenment Conference held in Shengal on 17-18 July.

In the final declaration, it was emphasised that the conference was convened in line with the call made by Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Ocalan. It was also stressed that Êzidîs are preparing for the new era.

"Êzidîs have been subjected to edicts and ignored for thousands of years. However, it is time to raise our heads. As we approach the 11th anniversary of the edict of 3 August 2014, one of the greatest betrayals in human history, we have seen that we must develop our social organisation to protect our existence. We are at a new stage in our history of struggle and resistance. Since the days when Leader Apo called on the Êzidî people to defend Shengal and themselves, we have experienced great progress and changes. The ancient Êzidî people have now built themselves militarily, politically, socially and organised. Our millennial truth has merged with a new system, giving us power, will and the right to speak. Thsi power is now also effective in Iraq."

"The Êzidî society should prepare itself for the new period", the declaration said. "As Leader Apo stated in his message, 'the era of edicts for Êzidîs is over.' With this message, the will that emerged at the conference showed that our society has reached a stage where it can lead the Middle East with scientific and enlightenment studies, rather than being a society known for massacres. We can no longer proceed with the old methods. Great changes are taking place in the Middle East and the world, and the Êzidî community must adapt to these changes. New political and social systems are being discussed everywhere, and we are also discussing change, transformation and rebirth. For us, this change is not only a renewal but also a rebirth."

The decisions taken at the conference reads as follows:

* Efforts will be made to have the 3 August 2014 Massacre recognised as genocide.

* Comprehensive research will be conducted on the history, culture, belief, philosophy and geography of Êzidîs.

* Academic studies will be conducted with a Jineology perspective.

* Writers, academics and historians will be directed to joint studies.

* Conferences and workshops will be organised in Shengal and Iraq.

* Research will be conducted on the oral culture, music and folklore of the Êzidî people.

* Work will be carried out in Iraq on the basis of brotherhood among all beliefs and peoples for the physical freedom of Leader Apo and the idea of a democratic nation.
