WAN - Speaking in Wan, DBP Co-Chair Çiğdem Kılıçgün Uçar stated that a democratic society cannot be established without workers and said: "It is time to unite our voices and struggle and establish a democratic country."
1 May Worker's Day is being celebrated in Wan (Van) under the leadership of Confederation of Public Laborers' Trade Unions (KESK), General Labour Union affiliated to Confederation of Confederation of Progressive Unions (DISK), Wan-Colemêrg (Hakkari) Medical Chamber, Wan Branch of Chamber of Dentists and Wan Provincial Coordination Committee (İKK) of Turkish Union of Chambers of Architects and Engineers (TMMOB).
Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Co-chair Çiğdem Kılıçgün Uçar spoke at the May Day rally attended by thousands of people in Musa Anter Park. Çiğdem Kılıçgün Uçar said that Turkey is the country where labour is exploited the most and that the country's economy is spent on war.
"Every day 4 workers lose their lives in Turkey and Kurdistan. In order to prevent this, it is necessary to bring together the struggle for peace and democracy," she said.
'ÖCALAN'S CALL IS FOR EVERYONE'
"Mr Öcalan's call is for the peoples, labourers, women and youth. We know very well that this war can be stopped and ended. A little while ago, when the cortege was coming to the area, they did not allow the banner with Mr Öcalan's photo on it. If you cannot tolerate Mr Öcalan's picture, how can we talk and make peace? Even if you do not let the banner in, Mr Öcalan's struggle has always existed and will continue to exist in the hearts of the people," said Çiğdem Kılıçgün Uçar and added: "I congratulate the May Day of Mr Öcalan and his friends who made the greatest effort for peace."
After the speech, the rally ended with a concert by artist Arhat.
