ISTANBUL – Following the ceremony held at the AKM for Sırrı Süreyya Önder, tens of thousands marched, chanting slogans suc as "Bijî biratiya gelan" and "Şehîd namirin".
Sırrı Süreyya Önder, Deputy Speaker of Parliament of the Poeples' Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party and a member of the İmralı Delegation, who passed away at the hospital where he was receiving treatment, is beng laid to rest. After gathering at the Atatürk Cultural Center (AKM), the crowd began marching towards Beşiktaş Dolmabahçe.
At the front of the march were the Peace Mothers, DEM PArty MP Kezban Konukçu holding a photo of Sırrı Süreyya Önder, as well as DEM Party MPs Çiçek Otlu and Sırrı Sakık, accompanied by thousands of citizens chanting slogans.
Throughout the march, which drew a large crowd filled with applause and tradional ululations, slogans such as “Bijî biratiya gelan (Long live the brotherhood of peoples)", “Şehîd namirin (Martyrs do not die)”, “No to war, peace now”, and “Our promise to Sırrı is peace” were frequently chanted. The march concluded in Dolmabahçe. The crowd then proceeded to the Barbaros Mosque in Levent for the funeral ceremony.
